By the 19th century, the Somerset Holliers had became the most numerous group of Holliers in the country, but their origins are obscure. Samuel Hollier who married in 1749 in Burrington is the oldest known Hollier in the line - prior to that it's rather speculative. The family is associated with Burrington, Draycott, Blagdon and Cheddar. They were mainly farm labourers. Another group at nearby Wrington probably connects to this group and may even predate them. The village of Banwell boasted two separate Hollier families, as described here.
The family of Jesse & Sophia Hollier at Churchill, Somerset, about 1910.
